Chef Sam Chao

Chef Sam Chao learned an appreciation for food at an early age, having watched his father and uncle in their fast food establishment at the First Canadian Centre, examining the logistics of open flame and wok for the first time in his life. After graduating from Stratford Chef’s School, Chef Chao began working at many world class restaurants across Toronto ranging in cuisines from Italian to Mediterranean and Asian. Under the mentorship of these top chefs, Chef Chao became a major contender in the Toronto culinary scene.
Throughout his career Chef Chao has showcased his culinary artistry at many high-profile events including the Toronto International Film Festival, cooking for the likes of A-list celebrities Brad Pitt and Mark Ruffalo and impressive dinners and events attended by distinguished clientele. He has also generously given his time to support several charitable events such as Feast of Fields and Taste of Toronto.
On a personal level, he has participated in many events in support of women with breast cancer, after a family member’s diagnosis. Chef Chao has been a key influencer in the menu design and kitchen operations at many restaurants throughout the city. Most will recognize him from his previous position and the well designed and delicious menu at Spice Route Asian Bistro and bar in downtown Toronto.
